"Experience + Youth = A Great Team" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-19 12:15:38

Many in the real estate industry have moved towards the team model. This is one of the best ways for experienced agents to share their knowledge while at the same time learning from young agents that may bring something new and exciting to the table. As the average age of a real estate agent hovers around fifty or so an infusion of youth can be positive for the overall industry. The inspiration for this thought did not come from real estate but rather from the world of professional sports more specifically the NFL. Fans of the game know that football is a game that cannot be played for a "long" time by most players due to the physical demands and punishment that each player experiences. Players in their mid thirties are usually considered to be at or near retirement age. Clearly this is not the case with REALTORS® but a parallel exists just the same which you will be able to see as this story develops. One of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game is Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers. In recent years there has been serious discussion of retirement during the off-season for Brett Favre. He has achieved so many great things that the only reason for him to continue playing is for a chance at winning the Super Bowl one more time. Prognosticators may not have expected the success that Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers are experiencing so far this year but he obviously saw enough talent on the team to decide to return for another season. As a younger quarterback. Brett Favre offered everything that a team could want from the position although he was sometimes criticized by the press for his "gunslinger" approach to the game which resulted in many great plays but also many miscues. Now as he approaches the twilight of his career he is considered the elder statesman of his team. His experience in virtually every possible situation is something that the younger players can learn from. This is similar to the lessons that experienced agents can teach to young agents just entering the business. Many of the players that Brett Favre won the Super Bowl with years ago are either out of the league all together or no longer with the team. The graying quarterback that is definitely a step or two slower than he was in his prime now must rely upon players that grew up watching and idolizing him to achieve his goal of winning another Super Bowl. No matter what team you are a fan of if you're a real football fan you must at least respect the career of this great player. You can only imagine what his young teammates think of him in particular one of his young wide receivers named Greg Jennings. Greg Jennings is in his second season in the NFL and he was on the receiving end of one of the greatest plays of Brett Favre's illustrious career in their game Monday night against the Denver Broncos. After the Broncos kicked a game-tying field goal with no time left on the clock a game that was once in the Packer's grasp could now possibly have been decided by the flip of a coin. The Packers won the coin toss and had a below average kickoff return which brought them to their own 18-yard line not exactly an ideal way to start off sudden-death overtime. Normally in this situation teams will try to work their way methodically down the field to get close enough to attempt a game-winning field goal. But not this time! The savvy veteran stepped back in the pocket and threw the ball 50-yards in the air into the awaiting arms of his second year wide receiver. Greg Jennings who proceeded to run an additional 32 yards for the game-winning touchdown. One play against the odds in a hostile environment on National TV and magic happened because a seasoned veteran with no fear threw the ball to an up-and-coming wide receiver with no "big-game" experience resulting in a touchdown that neither one will forget anytime soon. It all happened because of TRUST. So how does this relate to real estate? It all comes back to teamwork and having a team of people that complement each other to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Experienced agents can make themselves more well-rounded by tapping into the youthful exuberance and skills of a young agent. Young agents can learn to master their trade by learning at the hand of someone that has seen it all and done it all or at the very least has seen and done enough to know how to handle situations "on the fly." You also have to have the right people in the right position. The Packers made this magic play happen because the experienced quarterback had the know-how to get the job done and the wide receiver had the speed and skills to make the play. Had this been a second year quarterback throwing the ball to a wide receiver that had lost a step or two this story would likely not have been written. The savvy veteran and the enthusiastic rookie can do great things if they team up to complement each other's talents. Sports is just a microcosm of life and business and the real estate profession is no exception to this rule. If you're thinking about building a team or even joining a team you should be looking for someone that has strength where you have weakness. True teamwork is about trust and making each other better. Wonderful analogy and so true. Good teams surround themselves with team members who are excellent at what they are not excellent at. My assistant of 10 years is a great example. She loves doing all the behind the scenes things. I hate it. I'd rather be out rainmaking and bringing in the leads. Adam - Great post. Of course as a big-time football fan. I enjoy anything that relates the NFL to our industry. Also. Brett Favre is one of a very few starting quarterbacks that is older than I am and he's having a GOOD SEASON so that is great to see. I agree that rookies can learn from savvy veterans and veterans can draw from the skills energy and hunger of newer agents. Well done. Adam:2-4-6-8... Adam Waldman sure is GREAT! I love your posts. Supposed to have been at a game tonight but we weren't able to drive up due to our sitter having a bad cold. Don't like NFL much. Just college football. Sure hope my Noles can pull off the upset tonight. Fingers crossed knocking on wood got a horse shoe and a four leaf clover. I will need all that and more....=[You make great points and I've been trying my best to get RE/MAX to offer a special rate for newer agents working with a more experienced partner and learn how to build their business properly. Nice post! We can learn a lot from the NFL and 'teams'.. what I like about the 'team model' in real estate is the mentoring aspects and the 'diversity of age' influence! Really the family structure should be our first ecperience of how to operate as a team! Thanks. Fran Adam. It's terrific the way you relate sports to real estate and it's also very true. I loved the line about finding someone who has strengths where you have a weaknesses for a great balance. Oh Adam.. you got me on this one..... I LOVE BRETT... He is my favorite "scrapper" as I like to call him. Always rises to the challenge.. never quits and obviously by the team and fan support an all around great guy.... LOVE HIM - LOVE GREEN BAY. He's a wonderful role model Adam- Thanks again for another great post today. I enjoy reading your analogies. Veteran agents have a lot to offer to the younger agents. Younger agents bring a lot to the table too with new fresh ideas and many can think outside the box. Katerina Adam. I am not on a team but my office works as a team. It is a great to know that you can get help from another team member especially when you are new to the game. Hi Adam,Team work and sharing are so important in this business. We all have different talents and if we recognize what each "player" can contribute most effectively our team will be successful. You certainly know both your games. I really enjoyed this post and the related post above it. Thanks for all your words of wisdom. My broker and I are on the same business card to promote the both of us and show our teamwork. Always a pleasure to read your posts. COMMENT ON YOUR BLOG!!!!! IT WORKED!!!!! BOOOYAHHHH! My Noles won! Beat the #2 team in the country. A few years ago that wouldn't have been a big deal. Now. I am happy when they beat a directional school! Two more aspects that make Favre the player he is are his youthful enthusiasm for the game and a short memory. Not only does he have the all-time TD pass record he also has the all-time interception record. He brings a short memory and a confident attitude to every series. The same could be said for successful listing agents and how they approach appointments. MISSY: You and I are totally in synch with this thought. While the temptation may be to surround yourself with others that have the same skills it makes much more sense to do it your way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Missy. JASON: I've given up on trying to find players in the league that are older than I am although there are still a handful of them. That is a whole other blog for another day though. Not surprisingly we've found some more common ground. Thanks for commenting buddy. JESSICA: This would be funny if this was a video message. I can see you now wearing your red white and blue RE/MAX cheerleader outfit! I believe that we belong to the mutual admiration society because your posts are something that I look forward to as well. Glad to see that your Noles pulled off the upset. If one more number 2 loses they will probably be considered automatic underdogs no matter who they play. If anyone can get something done with RE/MAX. I'm quite sure that it's you! Thanks for the great comment. Jessica. FRAN: Your points are the reason that I love using sports analogies when it comes to real estate. Nice touch with the family structure analogy as well. Thanks for your comment. Fran. CAROLE: I never really thought about the line that you liked outside of real estate but from what I've learned about Feng Shui through your blogs it seems that you can make the same argument that this is exactly about your line of work. It's all about balance. Thanks for commenting. Carole. DEZ: Knowing you. I know that I can count on your support when it comes to football as long as I keep it non-Cowboys centric. I agree that Favre is a great role model in a world that has seen so many athletes become anything but a role model. Thanks for commenting. Dez. KATERINA: I'm glad that you enjoy these posts and the analogies as I really enjoy using them. There is a great synergy between veterans and young agents as long as each is willing to learn from the other. Thanks for your comment. Katerina. ROBERTA: It is great to see when people work together instead of working against each other. It's not an easy dynamic to find. Thanks for your comment. Roberta. CYNTHIA: I like your idea of thinking as each person as one of the players. In sports today like in real estate it has become all about the specialist. I'm glad that you're in agreement with me on this. Thanks for your comments. Cynthia. WES: Thank you for your very supportive and complimentary words. I really appreciate it. It's nice to see that others out there are doing unique things to show teamwork. Yours is definitely an approach that I've never seen. Thanks again for your comments. Wes. JESSICA: What am I going to do once the bowl games are over? I can't wait until September to see your comments again. You are too funny ("when the beat a directional school). I'm glad that your Noles won. There's nothing more fun around here than a psyched up Jessica Horton! JOHN: Thank you for adding some great points to this post that can also tie in to real estate. It kind of goes along the line of thinking that Brian Buffini preaches which is.. there is a lot of losing in winning (a/k/a "Winning Ugly"). Thanks for your comments. John. Adam:I will start building up momentum for next season! However. I will definately comment prior to any game starting! As you know. Adam. I work with my father. We make a formidable tandem with his 34 years of experience and success and my youthful exuberance. I'm an industry veteran at this point but the pairing was a tremendous boon for both of us those first few years. He would refer to me as his computer guy and I'd point to his success. Liked this post a lot because it hit so close to home. Adam - Love the post! Of course I am a huge football fan and also work in a team so this all makes perfect sense to me :) I am lucky to be part of such a great team in real estate. The camaraderie is also much like it is in team sports. PAUL: You and your Dad are a great example of how this can work. Even though you are now a seasoned veteran. I'm sure that you both complement each other's skills very well. Thanks for commenting. Paul. BILL: I figured that any sports analogies would work for you. I'm sure that you're enjoying this football season thoroughly. I didn't realize that you were part of a team but it's good to know that there are those out there that are really benefiting from the team dynamic. Thanks for commenting. Bill. As a former athlete teamwork is instilled in me. I can honestly say that as a new agent I would not be where I am today without the help of my more seasoned associates. This post hit close to home as I did not start out in a team environment. I am so glad to have made the change to working within a team environment. Not only have I learned from veteran agents. Good golly jeepers creepers and stap me vittles! Moving house is hard bring home the bacon. (If anyone knows what vittles are or why they should be 'stapped' please let me know). Los parentos are upping sticks and buggering off to France. As a result the accommodate looks like a clump of chimpanzees have got pissed in a DHL carve up warehouse. All the careful packing has been done. To avoid breakages all the glassware has been melted down into hand sized ingots ready to be re-blown on location in France. It has also been decided that it would be cruel to leave the cat to a local animal sanctuary pining for it's departed owners. So we drowned it in the bath boiled it up and made a very tasty curry out of it. In a well crafted bit of culinary irony it was stuffed with a tasty bhaji paste made from the goldfish. It's what it would have wanted. In actual fact the entire moving process seems to have started many years ago when my care placed a dozen paperbacks in a cardboard box in 1987 sealed it with carve up tape and wrote "BOOKS DINING ROOM" on the top in color marker pen. It has since lain fallow in the attic in readiness for the forthcoming move. In fact this is one of the few boxes that will be utilised during the move. I have suggested that it ordain be far more economical just to put all the possessions in to the back of the truck just as they are and then fill the remaining lay up with cavity protect insulating bubble thus securing the cargo for its entire jaunt. Items may then be chipped out of the bubble on arrival. Once this is done the only remaining task ordain be to close and obtain all windows and doors before lobbing a couple of consume grenades in through the cat move to flush out any possible undercover Al Qaeda extremists. It is always handy to take a look at the whole removals problem from a different viewpoint. I like to see it from the point of view of the furniture. In 1993 I sealed myself inside a tea chest and spent 3 years in a secure container near Dartford. Vittles.. an old English word meaning food nourishment,sustenance.. which I accept is derived from Victual... Stap... means a keg or tubSo put yer butties in a box dear boy! (and I didn't have to look any of this up either)I wish you've remembered to case the kettles on 'top' so that a good create from raw material can be made upon arrival.. to go with the butties....

"Highlands Puppet Theatre" posted by ~Ray

Highlands is an exciting "urban pioneer" neighborhood in northwest Denver. Families that have lived here for generations mix cultures with generally younger ‘newcomers’ who have brought their venues to this historic area along with new and renovated housing options Living here is an assay. And numerous opportunities exist for new experiences. One such venue is The Denver Puppet Theater. It had been located in other Denver neighborhoods but found its permanent domiciliate here in 1996. About 100 children can be each performance and check performances of classics and occasionally a ‘new play’. It’s hard to tell who enjoys the show more the children or the actors. In fact several of Denver’s prominent professional actors undergo worked here including Pamela Clifton. The vibrant color theater makes such a statement to that part of Denver that we have all go to experience and love. Located on 38 Avenue right in between Grove and Irving. The Denver Puppet Theater provides a piece of entertainment for our little ones that is one of a kind! My three boys and I recently enjoyed Hansel and Gretel and found the experience to be one that created a beautiful memory for us all! It was captivating to check so many bright eyes as the children watched and listened in wonder of the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel. This is just another reason to embrace the quality of life that the Highlands area provides for those who get to label it home and for those visitors that appreciate its style! Enjoy the show! "Bennett files for relocation" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:07:20

On behalf of the owners of the Seattle SuperSonics and Seattle act. I am disappointed that our efforts over the last fifteen months to advance the development of a new multi-purpose arena in the Greater Seattle area were not successful. From the beginning it has been my absolute wish and expectation that we would be able to secure the necessary governmental commitments to create a successor venue to KeyArena. Even though our proposal for a new state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility to be built in Renton was thoughtfully developed by a world-class aggroup was financially reasonable and was realistically attainable we were unable to act upon the Washington Legislature to vote on our account. The region is comfort in need of a modern building not just for the Sonics and Storm but also for the broad commercial and quality of life benefits such facilities provide. We now understand and respect that there is very limited public give for such a public investment. As we stated on July 18. 2006 and undergo stated on many occasions thereafter. KeyArena is not a viable modern venue for the NBA and if a successor facility is not identified by October 31. 2007 we would evaluate our options which would consider relocation. Given the alter lack of public political and business give for a new multi-purpose arena plus the enactment of Initiative 91 as a City of Seattle ordinance following a public vote authorized by the Seattle City Council itself and the significant operating losses the businesses are now incurring we undergo no option but to commence the NBA relocation affect. Today we notified Commissioner Stern that we plan to move the Sonics to Oklahoma City if we succeed in the pending litigation with the City or are able to discuss an early lease termination or at the end of the contract term. We have not made a decision regarding the future location of the Seattle act. We appreciate the deep local interest and support for the Storm and undergo begun to evaluate a future cover of action for the team. Notwithstanding the uncertainty and difficulty of this challenging time we remain completely committed to the success of our basketball teams. We will continue to provide our players coaches and cater the tools and give they need to be competitive. We are also completely committed to providing our fans a first categorise basketball entertainment and social experience. We ordain do all we can to ensure that our fans sponsors and marketing and broadcast partners enjoy the highest determine from their relationship with the Sonics and Storm. There undergo been many in the region who undergo provided courageous visionary support to our efforts. We sincerely appreciate your hard work and friendship in this difficult process. It seems like he has the beat timing for fans but obviously his timing is great for him but i for one am getting excited about this young team we undergo after watching the 1st two games and am looking forward to them growing in Seattle and now he pulls this and punches his fan locate alter in the gut! this isn't a affect to any of us the key now is to figure out how to beat proceed to keep the aggroup here.. to go out the leadership on this issue from commish stern has been non-existant.. he has chosen to cast aside us.. he's had ample opportunity to go to the mic and lend support and at virtually every opportunity he has laid an egg as far as supporting the team here goes.. he has look the be and conclude of a man who could not care less.. so what do we do now? does boycotting the games back up or cause to be perceived? to me it probably hurts and yet the thought of giving this slime ball owner one thin dime of mine goes against most everything I accept in... I'm no rocket scientist but at this inform my only thoughts regarding a plan of contend are to hit this guy (Bennett) where it hurts and thats in his bank account and in his self esteem.. to that end we need to force him to cut one legal check after another to the inform where is just gnaws at him and in the process use every opportunity to embarrass him to no end.. maye through this despatch he'll reveal himself to be human after all and just say 'forget it this isn't worth the annoy'.. the unfortunate-for-us-Sonics-fans fact is he and his co-owners are wealthy enough to absorb some real big legal bills. I don't like typing that any more than we like reading it but it's the truth.. maybe the embarassment/annoy factor is our beat separate to compete. I dunno.. getting the unify to grow furnish him an expansion aggroup in OK City is another option but who knows if the league cares to expand at this inform.. furnish lie is that it's a mess no matter how we look at it and one that could draw on till the current KEY contract expire in 3 years... pass the Aspirin... The aggroup was purchased by a group that is basically the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. They're the same guys who were instrumental in bringing the Hornets to OKC. Why would we have ever thought this wasn't the plan? When they added the local OKC Mercedes dealer to the ownership assort was there really any remaining challenge about their intent? They've got enough oil & gas buddies lined up at their club to buy all the luxury boxes in whatever arena they want drink there -- why would they conceivably stay in Seattle? I don't begrudge these guys their wish to carry an NBA aggroup to their hometown. Schultz is the real villian. I just desire we hadn't had to listen to a year of BS about how their "wish" was to act the team in Seattle. At least that's over now - their cards are finally on the table. They didn't get their half-billion dollar gift from the local taxpayers so they're taking their new toy back domiciliate where the government is a little easier for rich people with money to control. I hope the NBA enjoys their TV ratings for the OKC-Charlotte finals in a few years. I'm sure that'll be a huge draw. All he did was do what he said he was going to do. For the His statement is very alter too - that his intent is to move the aggroup change surface if they are forced to be for three years. Three lame duck years. Nice. The Mayor comfort has his continue up something - because he keeps giving the "through 2010 and beyond" communicate. All I am saying is he did what he said he was going to do. This should not be a surprise. Last nights game was amazing. Durant and color are fun to watch. Right around the time they are ready to lead this aggroup to the finals the new building ordain be done in OKC and they will be winning championships in Oklahoma. We all be some real and tangible positives to that end here's a great cerebrate to just that.. hope it helps.. here's the first part followed by the kink to the rest:November 2. 2007 5:57 PMI just got off the phone with Steven Pyeatt who is the co-founder of the Save Our Sonics and act movement. I wanted to get his reaction to Clay Bennett's announcement that he is applying to the NBA to act the team. His reaction was very interesting. For starters even though this man has been living this communicate for ages and knows all the key players he was so unconcerned by today's news that he hadn't even bothered to construe the touch release."Clay Bennett is like the guy robbing the convenience store," says Pyeatt. "He has to persuade the work that he has a real gun it is loaded and he's willing to use it. Otherwise he's not going to get any money out of register. This is just one more go in that affect." Pyeatt is convinced that while this might be a big public relations moment nothing has changed.

"Breaking News: Clay Bennett Shocks the World, Applies for ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:46:37

This story has just been reported about an hour ago. Seattle Sonics owner Clayton Bennett has get this filed for permission to move the team to Oklahoma City!! So the reason? There is no support for a new arena in Seattle. I evaluate that it would alter no comprehend to give a mediocre team a spanking new arena in Renton (there's also a Boeing plant there so that arena would be wrecked by a faulty plane). Here's one of the quotes from Mr. Bennett himself: "Even though our proposal for a new state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility to be built in Renton was thoughtfully developed by a world-class team was financially reasonable and was realistically attainable we were unable to persuade the Washington Legislature to choose on our bill," Bennett said in the statement. A truly tragic case but you know what? It's not his fault. The blame for this whole snotstorm is directly linked to Howard Schultz and former GM Rick Sund. Remember when Schultz and Sund were making all of the good moves and took the Spurs to 6 games in the 2005 playoffs? come up Sund did his move by letting go of (IMO) the most qualified coach for Seattle. Nate McMillan and getting rid of Jerome James and Antonio Daniels key players in this situation. So now Sund fusterclucks the Sonics play desire crap and we go away over. Sund stays but Howard Schultz wants to act accuse. He cops out of a messy situation and lets Bennett buy the team. In the 2006 NBA Draft they selected Saer Sene from Senegal (10th pick round 1). That is retardation beyond my wildest dreams. He was sent down to the NBDL and the Sonics proceeded to cut another draft choose. New season same crappy aggroup. Sund's gone go away over. Then there are the rumors of Oklahoma City. Las Vegas and all of this could've been avoided if it weren't for Sund and Schultz. They screwed up the aggroup chemistry. Bennett's obviously moving the team to OK for the sake of having a hometown team. be at it logically. Okla. City has a smaller merchandise smaller fanbase but a kick ass arena. It wouldn't alter sense to move a mediocre aggroup to a city longing for one. Sorry Seattle but the nice ironic part of this story the coffee man (Howard Schultz) likely came approve to bite you in your Mocha filled ass. Good on the Washington Legislature. In Columbus after the voters kept refusing to create an arena we got an arean through private financing. If they be a new arena for the team they can build their own arena. I experience it's a politcal and big money issue but I never understood the need of some of these owners to get a publicly onwed stadium or arena. The Dodgers have always owned their park and it has been of major monatary value to the club. Most teams who own and run their own park be the grow and find greater success on the field and in the pocketbook. Since Kansas City built the run Center business is booming downtown. We're getting more shows than ever. Garth brook has booked 9 nights already and says he'll add as many shows as needed. All we need now is an NBA or NHL aggroup. But SSR if KC can draw more then Seattle then the coat of merchandise is discuss. Look at Green Bay it's one of the smallest markets in the Nation yet the Packers thrive because of the fanbase. Maybe KC can draw for Basketball Eh you guy had a hockey team once then they turned into the Devils. No offense but it seems as if KC has kinda turned in to the communicate city whenever an NHL team is in some kind of financial attach. For months I heard "Kansas City Penguins" and now I'm hearing "Kansas City Predators".

"Relocation Hassles for a Chicago Museum" posted by ~Ray

The fight over the future of the Chicago Children's Museum is now being fought at the top of Chicago government.
