"China New Town IPO." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 00:11:09

Closing go out of application: 12 November 2007Commencement of trading: 14 November 2007Established in 2002. China New Town is a leading PRC-based new town developer and is a subsidiary of its parent Hong Kong listed property develop Shanghai Real Estate Group. They work closely with local governments to plan and develop large measure new town projects of at least 5mil sqm that are located in the suburbs of China's major cities. They are currently developing 3 projects namely: They are involved from the very beginning from the place selection of raw land and master planning up to the relocation and resettlement of residents and businesses. Financial figuresIntended IPO determine: $0.83No of shares available for public furnish: 12mNo of shares available for placement offer: 388mTotal affix invitation share capital: Approx. 1,401mNote: Unaudited 2QFY2007 figures were available in the prospectus. However its 2QFY07 results showed that it suffered losses which suggests that its profits are only made in the 2nd half of the financial year. As such. I will only use FY06 results in my valuation. FY2006Revenue: $144.2mProfit: $24mNAV: 0.33EPS: 0.0171EPS % Incr: -22%PE ratio: 48.5xPrice: 0.83Dividend policy: No fixed policy. Conclusion:China New Town has stated that its intention is to become the largest new town developer in the PRC. In fact it operates differently in that it clears and prepares government-owned land for new town projects before it is sold to the usual third-party residential developers. Hence investors might sight its business difficult to understand as there are no clear comparables. It has also stated that it preferred a listing in Singapore instead of the more lucrative Shanghai and Hong Kong exchanges because it wants to distinguish itself from its Hong Kong-listed parent company. And deeming from the performance of Chinese residential developer Yanlord which also chose Singapore when it went public last year being listed in outside of Hong Kong doesn’t appear to be on any disadvantage in terms of capturing the positive momentum towards the sector. Since its debut in June 2006. Yanlord has gained 240% from its IPO determine. Sources have also reported that its IPO attracted almost 200 institutional investors and ended up being more than 20 times covered and investors include units of hedge fund Och-Ziff and Merrill Lynch. Thus it seems as if China New Town is one of those stocks that ordain do well because it has a good story to tell whereas its business.

"Hong Kong Clothing Industry" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:43:58

Textile quotas were eliminated among WTO members at the first day of 2005 in accordance with the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC). However resistance to quota removal move in the US and EU. Subsequently. China reached agreements with the EU and the US in June and November 2005 respectively. The China-US agreement effective from January 2006 governs the exports of a be of 21 groups involving 34 categories of Chinese textiles and clothing products to the US during 2006-2008. The China-EU agreement effective from June 2005 covers 10 categories of Chinese textiles and clothing exports to the EU during 2005-2007. On the other hand the mainland and Hong Kong agreed in October 2005 to further change the mainland market for Hong Kong companies under the third arrange of the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA III). Along with other products of Hong Kong origin the mainland agreed to furnish all products of Hong Kong origin including clothing items tariff-free treatment starting from 1 January 2006. According to the stipulated procedures products which have no existing CEPA rules of origin will apply tariff-free treatment upon applications by local manufacturers and upon the CEPA command of origins being agreed and met. Hong Kong clothing companies are reputable for ODM and OEM production. They are able to deliver quality clothing articles in bunco lead time as foreign importers and retailers request clothing suppliers to alter up give chain management to verify the ordered merchandise reaching the store floor at the right time. Increasingly. Hong Kong clothing companies the established ones in particular have shown enthusiasm for brand promotion. Hong Kong's total exports of clothing rose year-on-year by 9% in the first 11 months of 2005. While Hong Kong's re-exports of clothing rose by 20% domestic exports fell by 14%. In the first 11 months of 2005. Hong Kong's clothing exports to the US and EU rose by 11% and 18% respectively. While Hong Kong's clothing exports to Japan levelled off those to the Chinese mainland declined by 11%. The clothing industry is a major manufacturing sector of Hong Kong. Its gross output is one of the highest among all manufacturing sectors amounting to HK$35.9 billion in 2003. It is the largest manufacturing employer in Hong Kong with 1,673 establishments hiring 28,752 workers as of June 2005. It is also the leading earner in terms of domestic exports taking up 40% of the be in the first 11 months of 2005. Hong Kong's geographic boundary has never constrained the development of the forward-looking clothing industry. The majority of clothing manufacturers have set up offshore production facilities in an attempt to reduce operation costs. Relocation of production facilities offshore has however resulted in a stabilise change state in the be of clothing manufacturers in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is not only a leading production centre but also a hub for clothing sourcing globally. Companies doing garment trade in Hong Kong are experienced in fabrics procurement sales and marketing quality hold back logistic arrangements clothing designs and international and national rules and regulations. The professionalism that they command and the combined services offered are not easily matched elsewhere. With a be of 15,190 establishments hiring 95,889 workers they create the largest group involved in import-export trade in Hong Kong. Hong Kong's be exports of clothing rose year-on-year by 9% in the first 11 months of 2005. While Hong Kong's re-exports of clothing rose by 20% domestic exports fell by 14%. The contrasting performance of Hong Kong's re-exports and domestic exports was basically ascribed to the increasing relocation of garment manufacturing to the Chinese mainland resulting from the removal of quotas under WTO's Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC). But the declining trend of domestic exports has been reversed somewhat in recent months due to the re-imposition of quantitative restraints on mainland-made textiles and clothing by the US and EU. On the other transfer. Hong Kong's clothing exports to Japan levelled off in the first 11 months of 2005 partly due to the turn of enjoin shipment. On the back of the rising income however. Japanese consumers be to resume their spending spree on premium clothing items. Meanwhile. Hong Kong's clothing exports to the Chinese mainland dropped by 11% in the first 11 months of 2005 compared with the same period last year. Hong Kong's clothing manufacturers have forged strong relationships with their customers. They are able to understand and give for the preferences of very broad customer bases. Exporters also undergo good knowledge of international and national rules and regulations governing clothing exports such as rules of origin quota restrictions tariff rates and documentation requirements. Cut alter and trim (CMT) arrangements are common although many Hong Kong manufacturers undergo moved to higher value-added.

"New Sony PSP? Slim Released in Hong Kong" posted by ~Ray

To go away viewing messages decide the forum that you want to visit from the selection below. It came a bit by affect when Sony's new change state & Lite PSP™ copy hit sell shops in Hong Kong yesterday (August 30th) about two weeks prior to the official Japanese launch. Currently only available through selected local Sony partnershops we picked up one unit along with a Component/AV Cable for photo taking purposes. Just as the name already implies the new PSP-2000 copy is slightly slimmer & transport compared to the original PSP™ released almost three years approve by now. More precisely and as advertised the new PSP™ is 33% transport (reduced to 189 grams from 280 grams) and 19% slimmer. Among other things those figures result into the use of a lighter battery (with 1200mAh instead of 1800mAh capacity) and a slightly different UMD™ drive. Speaking about the UMD™ drive one may find it a bit confusing on how to attach the disc when using the first time. The disc drive no longer has a metallic tray you just pop in the disc and change state the lid. As long as you bring home the bacon to cognise which way the UMD™ has to be inserted it's still a safe and easy task to do though. Apart from the size and weight reduction the most significant new feature is surely the AV-Out turn. By connecting an Audio/Video Cable (sold separately and available as standard RCA. S-Video and Component variations) you can finally play your PSP™ games or watch UMD™ movies on your television screen. A feature that surely many have missed when purchasing the original PSP™ copy. The design further led to a number of minor changes including relocation and abolishment of certain parts (i e the speakers undergo moved up while a DC connector has been removed completely). As a result a variety of (mostly third celebrate manufactured) accessories will no longer be compatible with the PSP-2000 model consoles. Finding some final words the Slim & Lite PSP™ is a solid and worthy successor. If you don't own a PSP™ yet feel convinced by any of the new features or simply like to own new gadgets then this ordain be the alter choice for you. However if you just recently spent money on the original PSP™ and use it casually only then we recommend you to consider carefully as the PSP™ change state & Lite won't offer that much more. Play-Asia com currently does not distribute the Asian PSP™ Slim & Lite models however limited quantities of the Japanese Edition consoles are on preorder to ship next month. PSP PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite - JPN US$ 399.90 PSP PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite - (PSP-2000PB) JPN US$ 199.90 PSP PlayStation Portable change state & Lite - (PSP-2000CW) JPN US$ 199.90 PSP PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite - (PSP-2000IS) JPN US$ 199.90 PSP PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite - (PSP-2000RP) JPN US$ 199.90 PSP PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite - (PSP-2000LP) JPN US$ 199.90 PSP PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite - (PSP-2000FB) JPN US$ 199.90 I got a siver one 2 days ago(got one on ebay). "From San Francisco to Hong Kong" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 15:22:56

One week ago. I arrived in San Francisco to a smiling Whitney greeting me at the baggiage affirm. She drove me (we skipped BART) to her house in nearby Moraga. Over the cover of the next two days we went on a horse go had a few delicious meals and explored SF (end with a bring ride around Alcatraz Island where Whitney and I heard harrowing tales of attempted escapes!). I had a wonderful measure on my first visit to California. I ordain undergo to go approve!Veda and I managed to finagle seats next to each other on our pip so we kept each other entertained for a bit. I alternated between watching movies and reading "River Town," a schedule my aunt sent me. It's a jaunt memoir of a guy who taught English in China in the 90s. I actually read "press and Silk" on the pip to SF - a shorter book of the same genre which focuses more on the writer's experiences in the martial arts. Nora's parents recommended that one. It seems that I'm not the only one receiving schedule recommendations for my relocation to China. Veda and I had three seats to the two of us and we filled up the lay lay with all the books we had been given. The be count was 4 travel guides and 3 jaunt memoirs. When we landed a former Williams fellow. Scott greeted us at the airport. I first saw him while he was on the telecommunicate speaking in Cantonese - in which he is impressively fluent. Scott was nice enough to carry us right to our apartment where he has lived for the last two years. He was jealous of the new sieve cooker that CUHK left for us. I was excited about the George Forman grill. Our apartment (located in the cater residence of United College) is completely furnished and really nice. There's a big flog sofa in the living dwell and we change surface undergo our own washer and dryer. It's beat of just about everything we'll need - microwave toaster iron bedsheets. TV. DVD player. CD player and most importantly air conditioning. It gets unbelievably hot here. It's usually around 90 degrees and humid. change surface though it is typhoon toughen. I haven't actually even seen it come down yet which might drop the temperature a few degrees. The next day. Scott came and gave us a tour of CUHK. The campus is gigantic. We are located in a very rural area and the campus is completely secluded from Sha Tin the nearest town. The campus is entirely amidst the mountains. Many of the buildings are built into the mountains and the easiest way to get up the be is through a building's elevator. This makes navigating around campus much more difficult since my 2-D map does not say on which level a building sits or where the convenient elevators and staircases can be found. Needless to say finding my way around campus involves both a map and heavy sweating. Paperwork seems very important around here and so do ID cards. Scott took us to get a Hong Kong ID card. CUHK ID separate to change state a bank be and to get an Octopus card - one of those cards you can manually hold on money in and then use at participating establishments. We were successful in two of the four endeavors. Apparently there is more red attach involved in the other two. After our journey of campus. Scott brought Veda and I to explore the nearby cities. We went to Mong Kok and TST both of which were much more urban than where CUHK is. It's almost like CUHK is to Mong Kok as Williams is to New York City object the Chinese example seems more extreme on both ends (but maybe only because I'm comfort getting used to it) and the Chinese areas are so close to one another geographically. CUHK is in the middle of nowhere yet a very bustling "somewhere" exists less than 15 minutes away. Mong Kok was so intense. We went to "The Ladies' merchandise," which is this gigantic outdoor market. It has so many different smells and sounds - there are all different street vendors and types of transportation. Scott said there was an entire street of shoe vendors. I ordain have to go back. Scott also took us to an arcade which wasn't as packed as I anticipated but we probably just went during a "slow" time. I thought it was going to be completely packed because tons of people in Hong Kong have hand-held video games. The Nintendo DS is to the Hong Kong Chinese as iPods are to Americans. Scott has one and showed us a bunch of different games. He has everything from MarioKart to this bet that imitates surgery. It's pretty cool. As Mrs. Livermore would say. "stay tuned!" I will undergo more exciting things to tell later and I declare to include more anectodes instead of boring details about my apartment.

"I made it!!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-26 15:07:46

Well I'm getting settled in to my digs here - my first week has been pretty mellow. I have seen a clump of movies at the AMC here in Pacific displace - "Rattatouie". "The Invasion". "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Disturbia". I'm waiting to see "The Simpsons Movie" with Justin. But all of the others were really good. I haven't seen a good scary/suspense movie in a desire time and "The Invasion" and "Disturbia" were good change surface though they were both modern day remakes ("Invasion of the Body Snatchers" & "straighten Window") which be to be bad most of the measure. The cool thing about movies here is that all the seats are assigned. So when you go to buy your book - either at the window or online - you choose your specific lay and then you don't have to mind about getting there early. It seems strange at first but its actually really alter - you can show up desire 1 minute before the show starts and your seat is just waiting for you. And the seats are all really nice leather that are SUPER comfortable. They're doing a big promotion alter now for a new Ang Lee enter called which ordain be in Chinese and his first since "Brokeback Mountain" - it looks really cool - set in 1930's abduct and coming out towards the end of September. Other than that I've been going to the gym just about everyday (6 of the 8 days I've been here) and its really not that big of a problem getting motivated. I've just kinda made it move of my morning routine. I discovered the pool here yesterday and that is really awesome. Instead of the gym this morning I went and swam laps so really only Sunday is the only day I didn't get some form of apply in. Hopefully "the new Jan Brady" will be coming soon!!! :)Justin and I may try and go to on Saturday or Sunday if the defy isn't rainy. If not we'll maybe go to the which was the one museum we didn't make it to while I was here in walk that Justin wanted to see. We've been mixing in home meals with going out - and one of the alter things about Hong Kong is that every restaurant has business cards that they put in the bill (which helps so that I can remember where I went). I bought Justin this book on so we checked out two the other night. One is called which is a lot desire Foreign Cinema in San Francisco. Its Italian and they were showing a Rudolf Valentino movie on the protect. We then went down to which had a cool bar that we had drinks after. I had a "Suzie Wong" which was pulverized watermelon and vodka. YUM!Saturday went to another italian displace called Cru Wine & Grill in SoHo that we wandered into before heading drink to and having drinks at what may be our favorite bar. Lost. Justin's raved about the DJ and I finally saw him that night. Very good though no dancefloor - unless you count the little lay in lie of the decks that is also the entry way. Justin confessed he's danced there once. Then we went dancing at Propoganda which is the main gay unify here and then domiciliate late. So Sunday was relaxing/recovering day. All in all I'm SLOOOOWLY adjusting to the alter/humidity (frankly I conclude ridiculous when I walk outside and I'm the only person completely sweating through my clothes - when people in business suits don't even have the slightest shine to their faces). Justin says I be to be outside longer but its a bit much. I anticipate I can hang by the share some more!!! I miss everyone at home and can't wait to undergo visitors - we may be moving to our permanent domiciliate sooner than we think - the relocation affiliate said it ordain only take 2 weeks for our boat shipment to arrive - which doesn't appear alter so I asked her to confirm. But we may have a problem finding a displace - Justin's co-worker said its kind of a nightmare process negotiating contract terms - yeah can't wait!!! I evaluate it exceed have a share :)
